In Brazil some people are
calling for a new debate on abortion, saying it should be considered a health issue and not a moral one. They want to change the laws (which currently only allow abortion in cases of rape or a health risk to the mother), and 65% of Brazilians oppose changing them, which isn't surprising since the church has influence.
So basically there are two
points to this thread.
A) Should abortion be considered a health issue or a moral one? I think it should be a combination of both.
B) Should the laws take into account the fact that abortions will be performed regardless of whether or not it's legal? I think it should definitely consider that, since a
safe abortion is better than a back-alley abortion that kills the mother and making it illegal won't really stop them it'll just move them.
